Rokia Traoré was appointed UNHCR Regional Goodwill Ambassador for West and Central Africa in 2015. She visited Malian refugee camps in Burkina Faso.
She gave a concert at the annual UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award ceremony in Geneva and played at the Glastonbury festival in the United Kingdom, raising awareness about people displaced by force, particularly in Africa.
In 2016, Rokia added her voice to the campaign and film #WithRefugees, alongside refugees and UNHCR members from around the world.
